Hoop Guru is one of the fastest growing AAU clubs in Ohio and we are looking forward to another great season for boys and girls.
Our club is focused on developing the fundamental skills of each player as well as teaching them team concepts out on the court. We take pride in our high quality coaching staff that consistently get the most out of each player and positively coaches them to be the best they can be.
Our coaches are some of the best in the area and include: former college head coaches, current high school Varsity coaches, J.V coaches as well as numerous youth league coaches. Their knowledge and ability to teach in an easy to understand, but effective style will give your child the tools to be a success.

6-7 Tournaments – Our tournament schedule is built around our team schedules, and most are within 45 minutes of our facility. We play in a variety of tournaments, so your child will get exposed to many different teams, not continually playing the same teams over and over each week. We will be sending teams to tournaments run by MAC Basketball, Varsity Athletic Club, Northcoast Showtime, Lake Erie Defenders,Ohio Storm as well as our own tournaments. You child will get great competition and won’t travel too far from home to do it.
-
20-26 practices(over 30 hours of on court training)
-
High quality uniforms – we order new uniforms each season
-
Great Coaching – knowledgeable, reliable, positive and passionate
-
Only 8-10 players per team – We want lots of playing time for your child and understand to limit the number of players on each team
-
Weekly Skill Development Classes – In addition to your quality practices each week, your child can sign up for our skill development classes at no extra charge. Ask the other clubs if they include this or will they charge you extra for it??
-
Speed and Agility Sessions – not only do we provide great practices, extra skill development sessions, we also offer free Speed & Agility sessions weekly to improve every area of your child’s performance. Do other clubs offer this? I don’t think so, ask them!!
-
We have our own facility with 3 courts, so a large majority of our practices will be held at our gym. You will know your practice schedule for the entire season once all teams are chosen, so you can plan your busy life and not have to worry when practice is or will it change week to week. Our schedule will stay consistent once it is set with minimal changes if any.
No other clubs will have these sessions as an included option for the athlete to work on skills to make them more effective out on the court.
We operate our AAU program to give the families more value for their money.
Practice
Practices are very important and allow us the time to develop a team concept and get a structure and system of play established for tournaments. We will typically practice 2 times a week for approximately 90 minutes, depending on what tournament we will be in that weekend. It is imperative that your child make every effort to attend practice and we understand that conflicts do come up. What you are paying for is the practice time, not playing time, that will help improve your child’s skills. We try not to punish players for missed practice, but do know that it is up to each coach to put the best players out on the court during the games. If your child doesn’t know the plays or concepts that we teach during practice, their playing time could be limited. No player is guaranteed a certain amount of playing time. During each practice session, we dedicate time to work on skill development. We feel that this dedicated time is a chance for each player to hone their skills that will help them out on the court. We want to develop the all-around player, so everyone on the team regardless of position goes through the same skill development. We don’t want post players just to be a post player, we want them to feel comfortable and have skills that will create a dynamic player wherever they are out on the court. The same can be said from a guard perspective, we want the guards to learn some post moves and be able to feel comfortable going against someone of their size on the block.
Tournaments
Each team will participate in 5-8 tournaments(depending on the grade level) throughout the season. Typically tournaments start at the middle of March and run through the end of May. We decide as a team which tournaments we will go to and make every effort to ensure that your child doesn’t miss any. Our goal is to work with everyone’s schedules to make it the best situation for the majority of the players on the team. We play in many local tournaments to keep the cost of travel down. Some other clubs will travel all over Ohio and the surrounding states to play their games. We feel that is too time consuming, expensive and not necessary, especially at the younger levels. Ask yourself if those tournaments that are so far away are needed, and what competition you are playing against and can you play different teams in local tournaments who are just as talented? The tournaments we will participate in, are very competitive in nature and give our teams solid teams to play against without the need to travel and incur more expense. More often than not, tournaments are between 30 minutes to 90 minutes of where you live. Tournaments run from Friday night thru Sunday evening, but vary depending on the schedule. We don’t have control over the tournament schedule, sometimes we won’t play on a Friday night, but that isn’t a guarantee.
Facility
We have a dedicated training facility that will house a majority of our practices and training sessions. We have secured additional practice sites in Medina and Strongsville, so you don’t have far to travel. Our practice schedule is done for the entire AAU season, once we establish teams, so you know where and when you will be practicing without having to worry about changes each week. Our facility, The Courthouse, has 2 basketball courts with Sport Court floors and break-away rims. We have updated many features in our space with new lights, bathrooms, created a lounge with concession stand. The lounge has DirecTV and internet connection for your enjoyment.
The training facility is at 1669 West 130th Street, Suite 501 (building 5), Hinckley, Ohio 4423 (just 3 minutes from 71 and 303 12 minutes from South Park Mall, and also under 10 minutes from Medina High School)
