Guidestone Holiday Family Giving Event

Two years ago Head Start Basketball expanded its mission to include a charitable arm called “Train for Life” which provides Character & Leadership training both on and off the court.  Train for Life promotes community service by developing service learning opportunities for local youth.

This holiday season Head Start Basketball will partner with Pro Sports Performance and Ohio Guidestone, which is a 501 (c) (3), EIN 34-0720558, to sponsor 21 local families who are in need.  All of the sponsored families are current Ohio Guidestone clients.  This relationship provides a valuable support network to help these families as they work to improve their situation.  The generous donations from our community will help give these families hope to keep working in a positive direction.

Local athletes and families will purchase gifts, many of them basic necessities, for the 16 families.  On December 18, 2016 Pro Sports Performance at 11985 Prospect Road in Strongsville will host a wrapping party where everyone comes together to prepare and sort the gifts.  The purpose of this event, in addition to providing 21 families with needed items and gifts for the holidays, is to promote service and provide local athletes and families the opportunity to give back to their community and develop life long leadership skills.

This holiday season Head Start Basketball Train for Life partnered with Ohio Guidestone (formerly Berea Children’s Home) and five Strongsville travel basketball teams to help local families in need. We were able to sponsor eight local families by purchasing Christmas gifts from their wish list.

Thank you to everyone who participated by donating gifts and attending the wrapping party. We were able to donate over $10,000 worth of gifts to the families. What a great way to impact families that are struggling and give them hope that they can begin moving in a positive direction. It was great to see all the kids helping and being a part of something bigger than themselves this Christmas season.

Looking forward to growing the Holiday Gift Giving Event next year so we can help even more families. Contact us if you are interested in participating in next year’s event!

Margaret Klinzing (Guidestone Holiday Family Giving Event Coordinator) – Just wanted to share below the thank you that I received from Arian May at Guidestone. Her words help to capture the feelings that so many have shared with me since our wrapping party and confirm that helping others lets us teach our kids about the real meaning of Christmas. You are all special people with incredibly generous hearts. Have a wonderful Christmas and thanks again for all of your hard work, enthusiasm, and help in giving our eight families a brighter Christmas. I really appreciate all of you and know that this year’s Holiday Giving Event would not have been possible without you!

Dear Margaret,
I want to thank you so, so sincerely for everything you did this year. You are awesome!!!! And I am still blown away by the generosity from you family, friends and neighbors.

The case workers picked up the gifts to deliver to their clients, their jaws dropped and they teared up at the sight of the gifts!! All the gifts have been delivered and each case worker has called to tell me that the families are weeping with joy as they see the gifts come in. It is hard to relay this to you via email without the emotion behind these messages, so I hope you know just how special you are and how far reaching your impact of JOY has gone this year. These families have the best Christmas ever because of the generosity and kindness of your crew. Thank you so, so much!!

As we discussed last week, I am connecting you with Amy Castelli our PR rep for OhioGuidestone in early preparation for December 2016 (which will be here before we know it.) Please keep me in the loop. I am so excited to see what happens next year!!

In the meantime, Merry Christmas!!!!

With Love,
